I’ll be honest, I always avoided these because of the cost for what it is. I always thought, “Why buy one of these when you can get any generic old ambi 45⁰ safety for $20-$30? After all, the safety is not a mechanical moving part and it’s not a high-stress area or anything. It’s just a lever. Why splurge?” I decided to for once just to see. Firstly, it is screwless, which is something I never paid any attention to before getting it. It uses a captive spring and detent in the same fashion that a pivot pin does. That alone is worth the difference. Secondly, the action is the smoothest of any I’ve ever used, yet it is still among most tactile. I’d probably give the edge to the Timney 49er in tactility, but only marginally. However the Timney is not quite as smooth and uses a screw to retain it. Installation of the Talon is a breeze, and it looks great to boot. I’ll definitely splurge on one of these for any future builds.

By far my favorite ambi that I’ve had. No more worrying about screws backing out.
