CONGO SLIDE & BARREL BREAK IN INFORMATION ((READ))
Your APE DEFENSE CONGO slide has been specifically designed to have tighter tolerances which are instrumental in improving the accuracy of your firearm. As such, your slide will require a break-in period.
Here are some things you must do when installing and shooting your new CONGO slide.
- Ensure that your firearms magazine is removed and you have physically and visually cleared ensuring your firearm is safe prior to removing your old slide.
- Your new slide has been intentionally heavily lubricated and we do not recommend removing this lubrication as it will help with installation and the break in process. Due to the tighter tolerances adequate lubrication is a necessary part of the process with our slides and match grade barrels. (note: match grade barrel fitment may be tight at first, thats why we follow these break in instructions)
- Ensure that your frame rails are properly lubricated and does not show signs of extreme wear or damage. We cannot guarantee proper fitment on 80% frames or homemade 3D printed hobbyist frames. Our slides are designed around OEM Glock frames.
- Install your new CONGO slide on your frame, (you may need to pull down on the slide release bar from both side to get your new slide to lock on to your frame properly.
- Rack the slide 30-40 times by pulling the slide to the rear and releasing it completely (this may be tight at first due to cerakote depending on the finish) Let the recoil spring do its job, do not ride the slide! Once you’ve racked the slide 30ish times, remove your slide, wipe it clean, reapply lubrication and repeat until your slide is moving freely. It’s completely normal to see underside cerakote wear and light barrel hood wear.
- Dry firing your new slide will help with the trigger bar / firing pin safety wear in process. (be sure you have lubricated these parts)
- Always use quality, full power ammunition. We CAN NOT guarantee function with reloaded or remanufactured ammunition. We recommend using brass cased 9MM 124GR FMJ ammunition from the following manufacturers: Federal, CCI, Speer, Sellier & Bellot, Magtech, PMC. We are not responsible for damage to your new slide or firearm due to using non factory manufactured ammunition.
- We recommend running 200-300 rounds of ammunition through your firearm and applying lube often during the break-in period.
- We recommend using factory Glock or Magpul Pmag magazines for your break in period.
Ignoring this REQUIRED break in period could result in reliability issue or damage to your slide or firearm.
