BREAK IN INFORMATION ((READ))
Your are APE DEFENSE slide has been specifically designed to have tighter tolerances which are instrumental in improving the accuracy of your firearm. As such, your slide will require a break-in period.
Here are some things you should do when installing and shooting your new slide.
- Ensure that your firearms magazine is removed and you have physically and visually cleared ensuring your firearm is safe prior to removing the old slide.
- Your new slide has been intentionally heavily lubricated and we do not recommend removing this lubrication as it will have with installation and the break in process. Due to the tighter tolerances adequate lubrication is a necessary part of the process with the slide and match grade barrel.
- Ensure that your frame rails are properly lubricated and does not show signs of extreme wear. We cannot guarantee proper fitment on 80% frames of homemade 3D printed hobbyist frames.
- Install your are new APE DEFENSE slide on your frame and rack it 20-30 times by pulling the slide to the rear and releasing it completely. Let the recoil spring do its job, do not ride the slide! Once you’ve racked the slide 30ish times , remove your slide, wipe it clean, reapply lubrication and repeat. It is normal to see slight underside cerakote wear and light barrel wear.
- Dry firing your new slide will help with the trigger bar/firing pin safety wear in process.
- Always use quality, full power ammunition. We CAN NOT guarantee function with reloaded or remanufactured ammunition. We recommend using brass cased 9MM 115GR FMJ ammunition from the following manufacturers: Federal, CCI, Speer, Sellier & Bellot, Magtech, PMC.
- We recommend running 100-200 rounds of ammunition through your firearm and applying lube often during the break-in period.

I would like to make a reconsideration with this slide, with my last review, i had said it had some problems. Turns out it was just me, not training enough on it. I ended up using my glock frame with a timney trigger on it, and i was getting very accurate shots. Absolutely phenomenal. Will buy again for sure.

There are a few things great about this slide, truly a masterpiece; but there are multiple issues I wanted to address about this slide. The chunk port makes it extremely inaccurate to shoot. For me it shoots low left, and I can’t even get a 2 inch grouping in 25 feet. Throw on a normal barrel and it shoots perfectly, but then you lose the functionality of the chunk port. The sights came sighted, and it was clearly tested before shipping. It came used with wear marks on the feed ramp. The great thing about this slide is that, it is very reliable, very sexy, and if this is used for concealed carry distances, up to 50 feet, this is accurate enough for that use. The acro cut is extremely well done, just throw a normal barrel and you will get extremely accurate shots with a factory zero’d aimpoint acro. The only solution I see to this, is to purchase the arc reactor chunk port barrel. Another issue I had in general with ape defense was the extremely long lead time of 2 months, which was supposed to be 14-21 days according to the dates posted when buying this slide. I was also told I would be given 2 magazine extensions as compensation for the extended wait time, but never received it. Regardless, this is a great slide, but I wouldn’t purchase it again if I even knew there was no lead time.

This is my second Ape slide.
But my first Wallace and I have to say it’s pretty sweet. The stiener MP5 optics does not fit on the closed emitter cut but they are working on fixing that. I will be getting more of these to sweet for the price.
